CLEAR+: What it is and How to get it

I have a confession to make: I’m an anxious traveler. 

That’s why I try to do everything possible to make my travel day smoother. The day before I fly, I pick out the clothes I’ll wear while traveling, clean the house, and check into my flight.

And on the day of my flight, I depend on my CLEAR+® membership to help me get to my gate faster at the airport. 

CLEAR+ means I spend less time waiting in lines, and less time spent waiting means I’m less anxious on travel days. 

Why CLEAR+ is worth it

Whether you’re an anxious traveler like me or simply don’t like waiting in lines, CLEAR+ helps take the stress out of travel. 

CLEAR+ is an annual membership that gets you through airport security faster. Here’s how the process works: 

1. Enroll: You can enroll online and complete the process the next time you travel through one of CLEAR+’s nationwide airports. Or, you can enroll at a CLEAR+ airport near you and start using your CLEAR+ Membership right away. 
2. Verify: At the airport, a CLEAR Ambassador will verify your identity with your face to complete your enrollment. 
3. Go: Whenever you fly from one of CLEAR’s airports (more on that below), CLEAR Ambassadors help verify you are you with your face, so your ID stays in your pocket. Then they’ll escort you to the front of security for your screening. 

CLEAR+ is currently available at 55+ airports. Members can also use the CLEAR App to get into several stadiums and arenas faster, and to upload their passport for an even faster enrollment experience.

What is the difference between CLEAR+ and TSA PreCheck®? 

CLEAR+ and TSA PreCheck® both help you get better travel, but the programs are not the same.

CLEAR+ Membership helps you get to airport security faster with quick identity verification. 

• Availability: 55+ airports nationwide
• Enrollment: Requires enrolling online or in-person

TSA PreCheck® membership is a trusted traveler program administered by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). It eases the security screening process for flights leaving from US airports. With TSA PreCheck®, there is no need to remove shoes, belts,  light jackets, or 3-1-1 liquids.

• Availability: 200+ airports nationwide
• Enrollment: Eligibility requires passing a background check.

Can I get TSA PreCheck® through CLEAR? 

First-time applicants: If you are a first-time applicant, you can pre-enroll in TSA PreCheck® online, then go to a CLEAR enrollment location to complete your TSA PreCheck® application. You’ll need a valid US passport or other acceptable forms of ID. A five-year TSA PreCheck® membership costs $77.95.

Existing TSA PreCheck® memberships: If you have an existing TSA PreCheck® membership, you can renew online through CLEAR as soon as 6 months before it expires. Renewal cost is $68.95.

Both programs provide an easier travel experience, but using CLEAR+ and TSA PreCheck® together offers a better journey—especially if you’re an anxious or impatient traveler like me!

It’s not a question of CLEAR+ vs. TSA PreCheck®. They’re better together.

The full price for a CLEAR+ annual membership costs $199, but Going members can access an exclusive offer. Going members can get 2 months of CLEAR+ free. 

Other ways to get a CLEAR+ membership

There are several other ways to get a discounted CLEAR+ membership, too. 

Hold membership status with select airline loyalty programs

CLEAR also partners with select airlines to offer preferred pricing to their loyalty members. You may be eligible for preferred pricing through your airline status. However, unless you hold a very high status level with your preferred airline, you can get a better rate for CLEAR+ through your Going membership.

Hold select American Express® cards

Several Amex  can cover the cost of a CLEAR Plus Membership* with up to $209 in statement credits per calendar year after you pay for CLEAR Plus with the eligible card:

• Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card
