Meet the Team: Jeremy Pesola
“Seriously, working here is something I don't feel I have to do, but rather something I get to do.”
Tell us about you! (Where are you from, hobbies/interests, things you do outside of work!)
Howdy, y'all! Jeremy here, and I am based in sunny Scottsdale, Arizona.
Like many in Phoenix, I'm a transplant from Illinois; however, I've truly come to love my home here in the desert. When I'm not assisting our wonderful (and I do mean wonderful) members, I spend my time hiking, exploring Arizona, going to concerts, and taking my dog, Willow, to the dog park at least twice daily.
What does a Member Success Specialist do anyway? How did you get into Success?
As a member success specialist, each day, I am in our email inbox and on social media platforms assisting members with travel/membership questions, listening to product feedback, and - my personal favorite - celebrating the deals they book!
My passion for customer service, and travel in general, started while working at a hotel - I loved engaging with the guests, finding out where they were traveling from, why, and what sort of plans they had while in Phoenix. In turn, I would offer insight and recommendations based on what they had shared.
These interactions quickly led me to realize the joy travel can bring to others, so when I saw the opportunity to provide similar help to MILLIONS of travelers, I knew I had to join.
What's your favorite thing about your role here at Going?
What I enjoy most about my role is the team's openness to collaboration and acceptance of member feedback.
On Member Success, we are responsible for relaying feedback or website issues. Rather than scoffing at what our members say, the other teams actually listen to feedback and resolve issues in real time. It's quite a site to see it all come together, and I am grateful to be at the forefront of such a culture.
What advice would you give to a candidate interested in working at Going?
Just be yourself……cliche, I know, but really - just be yourself! When I joined, I was quiet, maybe even too quiet, but I have since realized this company is just a collection of friends doing our best to help travelers experience the globe.
What's kept you here for 2 years?
My teammates, my teammates, our members, and oh! Did I mention my teammates? Seriously, working here is something I don't feel I have to do, but rather something I get to do.
- Each morning, I get to catch up on all things travel.
- I get to speak with our members and help them reach incredible destinations.
- I get to chat and interact with 70 of my closest friends.
And the best part is that I know I get to see them all at least twice a year :)
What travel experience moved you the most?
Before our recent Spring retreat in Mexico City, I decided to travel a few days beforehand to explore the city at my own pace. Not having done much international solo travel, I told myself to be a "Yes man" and embraced being there alone. Navigating the bustling streets, trying to communicate in a new language (I wish I had practiced more), and immersing myself in a different culture were all eye-opening experiences.
I spent most of my time exploring the countless neighborhoods and museums, but throughout it all, I saw beautiful displays of community, tried incredible foods, and just learned how to enjoy my time alone. This trip also fell around the 2nd anniversary of my time here at Going, so it was a bit overwhelming (in a great way) to reflect on the opportunities, travels, and growth this company has afforded me.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A professional basketball agent! I loved basketball and still do, but I quickly realized my talents (height) wouldn't help me, so working for someone in the NBA was my next best option.
